Types of Therapy I use

Many clients come to me after trying traditional talk therapy and finding that, while it helped in some ways, something still feels unresolved. Talk therapy is powerful for insight and understanding, but it doesn’t always reach the part of the brain that stores painful memories and emotions.

That’s why I incorporate mind-body and experiential therapies that access the deeper emotional and neurological layers of healing. These approaches help the brain and body process what words alone can’t.

My work isn’t one-size-fits-all. Every person’s story and nervous system are unique, so I integrate multiple approaches based on your needs, strengths, and goals. Together, we’ll create a customized treatment plan that supports real and lasting change.

EMDR Therapy

I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and the Flash Technique, both through EMDRIA-approved trainers. EMDR is an evidence-based approach proven to help with trauma, anxiety, depression, phobias, and sleep disturbances.

When distressing events remain unprocessed, they can keep us emotionally stuck. EMDR helps the brain reprocess those memories in a safe, contained way so they lose their emotional intensity and you can move forward with more peace and balance.

Brainspotting

Brainspotting is a mind-body therapy that helps you access and release stored emotional experiences held deep in the nervous system. Unlike traditional talk therapy, this approach allows the healing process to unfold from within, often with very little speaking.

During sessions, I hold a calm, attuned presence as your body and brain naturally move toward resolution. Clients often describe feeling lighter, clearer, and more grounded afterward.

Hypnotherapy

I received specialized training through the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis, which allows me to safely and effectively integrate hypnotherapy into my counseling work.

Through guided relaxation and focused attention, hypnotherapy helps you enter a natural state of heightened awareness where the mind becomes more open to insight, healing, and positive change. It can be particularly effective for anxiety, self-esteem, trauma recovery, and behavioral patterns that have been hard to shift.

Mindfulness-Based Therapies

Mindfulness is about learning to be fully present — observing thoughts and emotions without judgment or fear. By cultivating mindful awareness, you can respond to life’s challenges with greater calm and clarity instead of reactivity.

In sessions, we may practice grounding exercises, breathwork, or body awareness to help you feel centered in the moment. As I often tell clients, you can be the ocean floor — steady and clear — even when the waves above are rough.

Other Approaches I Integrate

Depending on your needs, I may also incorporate:

  • Developmental Needs Meeting Strategy (DNMS) — a gentle, attachment-based parts therapy that helps heal the unmet emotional needs of younger parts of self. DNMS supports integration, self-compassion, and emotional stability, especially for those with complex trauma or chronic self-criticism.

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) — identifying and changing unhelpful thought patterns

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) — emotion regulation and distress tolerance

  • Solution-Focused Therapy — clarifying goals and practical next steps

  • Integrative and Interpersonal Therapies — understanding relational patterns

  • Compassion-Focused Therapy — nurturing self-kindness and emotional safety

How These Approaches Work Together

In each session, I draw from these modalities as needed to help you process experiences on both a cognitive and somatic level. The result is a comprehensive, trauma-informed approach that supports healing, emotional regulation, and self-integration — not just symptom relief.
